Disney World - Day 2

Monday 13 May:
Hollywood Studios

Day 2 of our Disney adventure was going smoothly… until we exited the hotel room to catch the bus. We were greeted with some rather dark skies. Hoping that it wouldn’t get any worse, we walked quickly to the bus station. Within a few minutes, it was bucketing down. Fortunately, it was soon over and the skies had cleared by the time our bus arrived. At this point, it hadn’t yet clicked that we needed to keep a closer eye on the weather forecast.

Within 30 minutes we entered Hollywood Studios and headed straight to our first ride: Star Tours. It was super cool to see all the Star Wars theming throughout the queueing space, but the ride itself was not as fun as we’d hoped. It was a 3D flight simulator and within seconds we were both feeling motion sickness. Luck was on our side and the ride ended rather abruptly. A weird ending, but we were happy for it to be over!

We exited the ride and found the skies had turned dark again. We quickly made our way through the rain to a Starbucks. On our ‘foods to try’ list was the Butterfinger/PB Cupcake, sold only at the Hollywood Studios Starbucks (The Trolley Car Cafe). We had fortuitous timing, because the storm worsened once we reached Starbucks. We nibbled away at the delicious cupcake and waited for the storm to pass. In the end, we waited for over 2 hours before we braved the rain.

At this point it finally clicked that we may have some issues properly exploring the parks if or when it storms. This is when we became glued to the weather radar to help guide our plans for the day. We had a full day mapped out at Hollywood Studios, but with no sign of the weather clearing, we ultimately decided to cancel our dinner reservations and head back to the resort. As you can see from the photo below, I was rather disappointed.

We hid out in our hotel room, ate lunch and watched a movie whilst the storms continued to roll through. Eventually, the rain cleared and so we headed out for a walk around the Port Orleans resorts. Hard to believe that this gorgeous weather was the same day! We finished off the day with a swim in the adorable resort pool, followed up with a cheeky bev at the pool bar.
