Victoria & Butchart Gardens

One of the awesome things about living abroad is having family visit. I know that may sound bizarre, because yes, it means we miss out on seeing our loved ones. However, it means that when we do get to see them, it's all the more special and significant. We get to take our guests on a tour of the city through our eyes, and even explore new locations together. Aaron's parents visited us last September. In March, Aaron's friend was in Seattle for work and swung by Vancouver to see us for a few days. This time round, my Mum came to stay.

During her stay, we took a guided tour to Victoria over on Vancouver Island. It was a huge day with a lot of travel (1hr bus to ferry, 2hr ferry, 30 mins to Victoria from ferry terminal - and back!) but a great opportunity for sightseeing and catching up!

After having lunch at one of the cute Irish pubs in Victoria, we were taken over to the famous Butchart Gardens. It was pretty average for the most part, but the sight of the sunken garden was definitely a highlight. The garden looked absolutely glorious in the afternoon sunlight! We also stumbled across a carousel which a group of middle aged adults were enjoying. They were giggling like children and it was delightful.

Thanks for the memories Mum! Next up, Aaron's sister! :)
