Waterfront & Lost Lagoon

A couple of weeks ago now, we headed in to the city with the intention of checking out Stanley Park. This park is the second biggest in Northern America after Central Park in New York, which makes for a pretty cool fact ;) True to character, we quickly became distracted on our way to the park by the cherry blossom trees at Canada Place, which had just begun to bloom. Really though, how can one not stop to enjoy the gorgeous-ness of these flowers?!

After taking in the beautiful scenery, we wandered along Waterfront toward the park. Pretty quickly we realised we'd be needing some lunch soon (we spent more time with the bloody blossoms than what we first thought haha), so re-considered our plan of attack. Being well-fuelded is of utmost importance.. and no one likes a hangry Kim!

We stopped to read a map to scout out how far we'd like to walk, when a gentleman overheard us and promptly began a conversation (something I've learned about Canadians is that they cut straight to the chase - no fluffing about with greetings. It's like there's no social 'barrier' - the locals are quite comfortable with approaching strangers and striking up a conversation or requesting help. Initially it seemed quite abrupt and even a little rude, but I'm realising it's just one of those social normalities that differ from Australia!). He told us a little of Vancouver's history and the way the city has grown over the last century. It was actually quite insightful! I feel he could have continued for far longer than the 20 minutes we spent with him - he certainly didn't seem to have anywhere else to be (Aaron thinks he was probably a pretty wealthy guy haha) - but I appreciated him taking the time to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with us! We wished him well and headed toward Stanley Park.

We settled on walking part of the way through the park; specifically to the large lagoon just past the entrance (lol). My my, it was certainly breathtaking! Every way we looked we could see snow-capped mountains nestled perfectly behind the view. How spectacular a place Vancouver is, to have all this beauty in and around the city. We chose well Aaron! How blessed we are to be living amongst this vibrant landscape.

With love,
Kim
